I am writing this review after recently returning from the Saracens Head with my family. Generally, I do not review establishments as I believe you should be free to make your own opinion. However, I feel the need to review the Saracens Head, as I do not believe it gets the recognition it deserves! We arrived at approximately 12:30 and were greeted by a friendly young waitress who took us to a table and offered us some drinks. She was very knowledgable of the products she had for sale and offered crayons for my younger children when I asked if there was any activities available for them. She left and soon returned with our drinks in tow. She offered us a range of specials, and stated the meats that were available for the Sunday Roasts. She then left to see another table, telling us She'd return shortly. Low and Behold, she returned, and politely waited for my husband to deliberate between the choice of two meals. She offered her recommendation (Homemade Cheese & Onion Pie) and left. Within ten minutes our starters had arrived, and I can highly recommend the Brie Wedges, and Garlic Bread for the kids! A further waitress asked if everything was okay with our food, and took a further drinks order from us. Our plates were cleared and our main meals followed shortly afterwards. The food was fantastic! My husband couldnt recommend the Cheese & Onion Pie enough, stating it was the best he'd ever had. The kids meals were extremely generous portions for my two youngest children, both under 10 and my 19 year old son, enjoyed his Beef Roast. I would further recommend the Rump Steak with Peppercorn Sauce off the Specials Board. The waitress came to clear our plates, after offering us further drinks and I asked for her to give our praises to the chef. The meal was followed with a chocolate fudge cake for my eldest son and two icecreams for my youngest. We sat and watched the waitress make our desserts, which I haven't seen before, but nevertheless my children enjoyed! After settling the bill, we decided to head to the Playbarn! £1.00 entry!! I couldn't believe it when the woman said. An absolute bargain! My husband and I had ourselves a coffee and my son a water. The children played for about an hour and were reluctant to leave. Definately worth another visit! Sorry about writing such a large review, but after reading the one below, by a said davisgilroy, I had to express my opinion. The staff were fantastic, extremely experienced, polite, and helpful. The food was fabulous, highly recommended and at a price no one can complain of! I wouldn't hesitate visiting the establishment just because of the review below. Obviously they would not know good service if it him them in the face!

  • 1 Saracens put to bed

We went here to celebrate my 30th birthday with family - my brother, living down the road in Altrincham, looked for pubs in the area on the internet and came across this establishment. Architecturally the pub was very nice and the selection of drinks available was fair to good. Unfortunately though that's the only good thing I can say about the Saracens Head. The food was just terrible. After receiving a pate dish containing a black hair, and subsequently followed by 5 cold (and subsequently microwave re-heated), sub-standard Sunday roast dinners we were loathe to have to pay the full bill (having left 80% of the food untouched). When we discussed this with the Manager he turned on our whole party and accused us of regularly going into restaurants, ordering food and refusing to pay for it. He was partially correct - we tend to eat out at restuarants at least 3-4 times a month, and surprisingly enough, order food when there. However, this is the 1st occasion that any of us have been so disappointed with a meal that we have had to negotiate not paying the full bill. The staff (manager aside) were pleasant and courteous, but under-trained - and the kitchen staff are clearly wholly inadequate. As for the manager, well I would say he was nothing more than an ignorant little man with a chip on his shoulder. His attitude to customer service was, 'Customer service is for good customers' (delivered in a raised voice!) and his parting shot was for us to never show our faces in his establishment again. He need have no fears there - the whole experience left a nasty taste in the mouth (no pun intended - though not misplaced) and there's no way any of us would visit the Saracens head again. It's a real shame, in the right hands the place could be an absolute gold mine - but in its present hands I could only see it on the next version of Gordon Ramseys kitchen nightmares.
